Book Recommendations for Beginners

Question:

Assalamualaikum,

Hope you’re well.

I wanted to ask for some recommendations. I’m planning to start memorising the 30th Juz along with its translation, and also want to study the lives of the Companions.

Do you have any suggestions for good beginner friendly books?

Is there anything you think I could add or improve in my daily routine?

If possible, could you also recommend books: 30th Juz with English translation including brief explanation, Life of the companions and any other good beginner friendly books available in PDF if possible?

JazakAllahu Khairan.

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum Wa-Rahmatullāhi Wa-Barakātuh.

May Allah Ta’aala facilitate and bless your journey in acquiring Islaamic knowledge. Memorizing the 30th along with its translation is an admirable initiative that will help one attain greater Khushu (concentration) in Salaah.

For this purpose, a good recommendation is “Quraan made easy” which is a translation of the Holy Quraan prepared under the supervision of Mufti Afzal Hoosen Elias (May Allaah have mercy on his soul).

In addition to this, to gain a good understanding of the Surahs, one may include in their routine the  commentary of the 30th Juz  in Ma’aariful Quraan, authored by Mufti Muhammad Shafi’, the grand Mufti of Pakistan (may Allaah have mercy on his soul).

For reading about the lives of Sahaabah, we recommend the English Translation of “Hayaatus Sahaabah” by Mawlana Muhammad Yusuf Kandehlawi (may Allaah have mercy on his soul).

To increase one’s love for our beloved Nabi ﷺ, it is also beneficial to include a biography in one’s reading. In this regard, the book “Seeratul Mustapha” by Shaykh Muhammad Idris Kandehlawi (may Allaah have mercy on his soul) is an excellent choice.

Lastly, to gain a basic understanding of Aqeedah and Fiqh, we recommend starting with the book “Ta‘leemul Haqq” ideally to be studied with a scholar.

When beginning, it is important not to overload oneself so that the journey does not become overwhelming . May Allah Ta’aala accept all your efforts, grant you consistency in your path of learning and bless you with the best of rewards in this world and the hereafter.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows Best.
