Post Hajj Functions

Question:

Assalamualaikum

Mufti Sahib

Is it permissible to give a party in honor of the hujjaj after returning from Hajj? Nowadays, it has become a common practice to invite hujjaj for food and to sit and talk together. Is it innovation to invite relatives at home, party halls or mosques? A party is given in the mosque with the intention that the pilgrims get a chance to meet people and share their experiences with each other.

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum Wa-Rahmatullāhi Wa-Barakātuh.

In principle, holding a function to congratulate the Hujjaj is permissible on the condition that the is no extravagance, ostentation or obligation.

Nevertheless, if holding such functions has become an obligation amongst people, it will be impermissible to hold or attend such functions.[i]

Furthermore, if the function is held in an environment wherein peoples’ actions are contrary to the dictates of Shariah, like halls wherein music, intermingling or missing salah are found, then having such events will not be permissible.

جائز ہے مگر اس کا ایسا التزام کہ نہ کرنے کو معیوب اور دوسرے پر قرض سمجھا جانے لگے تو جائز نہیں ۔ واللہ سبحانہ وتعالى علم –

الجواب وبالله التوفيق: حج سے واپسی پر اس طرح کی دعوت کا التزام بے اصل ہے اور محض نام ونمود اور نمائش کا ذریعہ ہے، اس سے احتراز لازم ہے، ایسی دعوتوں میں شرکت نہیں کرنی چاہئے۔

الجواب: حدیث میں آتا ہے کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کسی جہاد کے سفر سے واپس تشریف لائے تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اونٹ یا گائے ذبح فرمائی ، اس روایت سے معلوم ہوتا ہے کہ حج کے سفر سے واپسی پر حج کی خوشی کی وجہ سے دوست واحباب اور اہل قرابت کے لیے کچھ دعوت کا انتظام کرنا درست ہے ۔لیکن فخر و مباہات اور شہرت سے احتراز لازم ہے ۔ نیز اس کو رسم ورواج کا درجہ دیکر ضروری بھی نہ سمجھا جاۓ ۔
